Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe offers activities in STEM, art, reading, spelling, writing, sports programs, science, geography, history, and fitness. The program offers STEM and art at all sites, with activities tailored to the varying interests and skill levels of each age group. The program provides snacks at no charge to participants.
Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe was founded in 1991 and was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that year. In 1992, the Lake Tahoe Club was chartered, and in 1993 the Club was accepted into the membership of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In 1995, a new Club was chartered at Lake Park Apartments, and in 1998 the Club expanded into the state of Nevada and opened a site at a public housing unit. On July 10, 2001, the Board of Directors signed a joint-use agreement with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for the construction and shared use of facilities, supported by a gift from the Park Cattle Company to cover construction-related costs. In 2004, a new Club was chartered at Bijou Elementary and an expanded site opened at Al Tahoe Elementary School, and in the fall of 2004 the Club expanded its single site into two sites. In December 2021, the Club launched the Building Bright Futures Campaign to raise remaining funds for a new clubhouse, and in April 2022 the Angel of Tahoe building was completed and opened to members. In 2022, there was a grand opening of the Angel of Tahoe building and a new Club was chartered at Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School. At the start of the 2022–2023 school year, the Club expanded its programs to Meyers Elementary School, and in the 2023–2024 school year a new Club was chartered at Tahoe Valley Elementary School for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students. In the 2024–2025 school year, the Tahoe Valley site expanded to serve students in transitional kindergarten through 5th grade, and in 2025 the Meyers site expanded to serve transitional kindergarten.
Community members formed a Board of Directors and began the process of establishing youth development programs for the South Shore community, and the organization continues to be led by a Board of Directors and its first Executive Director. Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe is affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The stated mission of Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe is “TO EMPOWER ALL YOUNG PEOPLE TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.”
